Weeks 1 & 2 Reflection: Rethinking Technology in the Classroom
Over the first two weeks of this course, I have started to rethink what technology can look like in a classroom. Learning about the SAMR model helped me realize that technology does not need to be used at the highest level all the time. Starting small is okay, and with intentional planning, lessons can be extended to transform learning in meaningful ways.
Looking back on my own experience as a student, technology use was limited. I did not start using Google Classroom until high school, and the main assistive technology I used was Google Read&Write. Because of this, learning about tools like HyperDocs, WeVideo, Google Classroom, AI-supported tools, and digital assessment strategies has been eye-opening. It has shown me how much more inclusive and student-centred classrooms can be today.
One tool that really stood out to me was WeVideo. I am just getting to know how to use it for our assignment but I’m liking it so far. Instead of using it to extend a traditional lesson, I can see myself using it in the future as a community-building tool. When creating a classroom expectations list and anchor chart, I would love to have students record themselves saying one expectation from our co-created list. I could then compile these clips into a class expectations video, so every student’s voice is represented. This feels like a strong example of moving toward the redefinition stage of the SAMR model, as this type of collaborative product would not be possible without technology.
During my practicum, I have also noticed that Book Creator is used regularly in the classroom. Seeing students engage with this tool has made me interested in exploring it further and educating myself on how it can be used effectively. I would like to learn more about how Book Creator can support creativity, student voice, and differentiation, and how it can be used alongside tools like WeVideo to enhance learning experiences.
Overall, these first two weeks have made me excited to intentionally integrate technology and AI into my future classroom. Rather than using technology simply for convenience, I hope to use it as a tool to support inclusion, engagement, and meaningful learning. This course, combined with my practicum experiences, has helped me see the potential of technology to build stronger learning communities.
I’ve also added a link to a YouTube video on a tutorial for book creator for teachers, if anyone is interested in learning a bit more about it!

I love you idea of creating the class expectations video and having each student’s voice represented. I never thought about using WeVideo that way but I definitely want to remember that to use in the future! Great idea and thanks so much for sharing the link on Book Creator as well! I saw a lot of students using Book Creator in my first practicum placement in Grade 5. It made even the students that struggle with writing that much more engaged when using the tool. It’s definitely something I would to get more familiar with myself so thanks for the extra info! ☺️
